This year, we at Better Breed Cameroon once again addressing the problem of youth unemployment through a new initiative- the Youth Employability Bootcamp (YEB). The YEB is a month-long intensive program which aims to develop the employability skills of young Cameroonians who have been unsuccessful in securing employment for over a year. The YEB program offers to equip unemployed young people with the necessary career counseling, soft skills, and knowledge of the labor market to increase their chances of securing suitable work and/or jumpstarting their dream careers. The first edition of this program will hold throughout the month of September 2021 in Buea. To apply for this program, fill in the google form here: https://forms.gle/xH6JfbD8YdbHW7n36
Employment remains one of the major youth development issues in Cameroon. Recent statistics show that the unemployment rate among young people (aged 15-35) stands at close to 13%, while the level of under-employment is a whopping 71.9%.
However, as much as Cameroon has an employment problem (scarcity of jobs), we equally have an employability problem (scarcity of employable young people). Cognizant of this, Better Breed Cameroon has in the past organized web-empowerment workshops and Campus Career Day events to facilitate the effectiveness of young peoples job searching and open them up to broader possibilities.
